Petition

We, the undersigned, demand that the European Parliament ensure that the prices paid for use of wireless internet (WiFi) networks when travelling within the community are not justifiably higher than the charges payable for the provision of home broadband internet access.

Some hotels and public spaces with a captive audience are charging astronomical prices for access, we think that additional regulation is needed inline with the recent regulation governing roaming rates for mobile phones.

Ideally WiFi providers should permit a short period or of free access with capped tariffs thereafter.

Background information

Connectivity via mobile devices is now a part of every day life, yet many public spaces, hotels and coffee shops charge exorbitant prices for access to the internet via wireless networks.

In the meantime, costs of home connectivity continue to plummet thanks to high demand.

Charges for internet access, where available in public spaces should reflect this.
